Burn Ban Description

Outdoor burning is never allowed at night or when winds are predicted to be more than 23 mph (Current Wind Speed).

Rules for Outdoor Burning in Hays County (when allowed).

The need for a burn ban is reviewed weekly at Commissioners Court meetings and can be enacted at any time by the County Judge on an emergency basis. The Hays County Fire Marshal, in conjunction with local fire department chiefs, makes recommendations as to whether a ban is needed.

Burn Ban In Effect

Under a burn ban, all outdoor burning is banned in unincorporated areas, including the use of burn barrels with lids. Food grills can be used, but care should be taken to ensure that there is a water source nearby and that a fire is completely out before being unattended

Burn Ban Lifted

Property owners planning to burn should notify the Hays County Emergency Communications Office at 512-393-7896. Please also notify your local fire department and as a courtesy, your neighbors.
